Default Shooting!!!!!!

Hi guys, I need help. Now before you tell me to practice, please read what I have to say. And yes, I have practised to no avail.

My issue concerns shooting. Or rather the lack of quality.

And if you can't spare 2 minutes reading, I have summarised at the bottom

I have played FIFA since 97 and up until 04 everything was fine. You pointed your direction and shot. To shoot into the corners you directed at the diagonals and if you wanted a low shot you either tapped quickly for a weak shot or double tapped for a shot with power.

From 06 – 09 (which is my latest version) all that has gone lalalala up. I can have twenty 1 on 1s in a game and either miss the target or hit straight at the keeper. My mate will have 5 shots and tonk them past the keeper.

At this point you’re thinking you’ve heard this all before – but wait - it’s not all a matter of practice. And I have control in other areas. To set the scene, please understand that since 97, me and my mate have Fifa nights where we choose a team each and play best of 3 games. We then change to new teams and do another best of 3. And so on. neither of us sits down with any one team for any length of time.

So point 1 – my mate has had same level of play as me – yet his accuracy and shots far exceed mine. As World XI, especially Hagi, he can pull off outstanding goals and yet I struggle with a 1 on 1 from 12 yards.

point 2 – even tap ins don't happen!
The other night, as Classic X1 and Inter Milan, I crossed to my strikers who were central and between 15 and 20 yards out and had an open goal. 5 times this occurred. I TAPPED the shoot button as quickly and deftly as I could, to just pass it in. On all 5 occasions the ball flew over the bar. And this is by tapping!!!

I understand that the longer you hold the shoot button, the more power, but we’re talking taps here! If a tap of the shoot button sends it high and over – what chance have I got? And the strikers in question are WORLD CLASS. No way they should hoof these shots over the bar. I mean, how realistic is a game where class strikers miss 5 tap ins to an open goal??!!!?

And then my mate, tears down the other end and curls one on from out wide and 20 yards.

Point 3 – I have many 1 on 1s as he likes to plays a high offside trap. Imagine, Henry, Ronaldinho, Hago, cantona, Kaka, Rooney, Totti running down the middle of the pitch, 1 on 1 with the keeper and their shots balloon over. Or go straight at the keeper. And any slight movement to the corner of the goal and the shots go wide. I shoot straight – into the keeper’s hands. I shoot a fraction to the left and it’s wide!

Has any one else noticed this? How can you possibly direct shots when the controls are so sensitive? And this is (apparently) with CPU assistance!

Now before you tell me it’s me – bear in mind my passes go where I want them to. In the direction I aim. So why are my shots acting in a completely different manner? And I have tried playing with Semi and Manual shooting.

Point 4 – RB controlled shot. Every time, no matter who I am, when I use this function, the ball STILL loops up and over. Even in the arena as Ronaldinho. And even when I just TAP the shoot button. This cannot be right, surely?

So there I am, racing to a 1 on 1, pressing the direction stick to the right (3 o’ clock position). A micro millimetre to the diagonals (aiming for the corner) and it’s wide so I go for the RB button. And Whoosh……..over the bar.

Then my mate will whack one from 30 yards and it has immense power but doesn’t go higher than the bar – forcing my keeper into a super save or even worse – he scores a goal.

Point 5 – I wondered if my control was super sensitive but I cannot see any way to alter how quickly the power of your shots increases. Any ideas?

Point 6 – All these problems I am having are with WORLD CLASS players. Often in 1 on 1 situations – forget the 40 yard spectaculars!

Point 7 – Passing vs shooting. The shots don’t go in the direction I aim.
Yet my passes do.

The slightest movement of the direction button sends the shot flying off target.
Yet this DOESN’T happen with the passing function.

The power of my shots is crazy.
The power on my passes is as strong as I intend them to be.
So it cannot be me!

Not only was I fine with shooting from 97 – 04 but even in 09, my control of my passing is just fine. So there s no reason why my shots aren’t. And these are standard shots – not from acute angles, or when I’m facing away from goal. And they’re all by world class players.

It really has got to the point where I feel like crying. And I am 33! Imagine me, as Ronaldinho in the arena, bearing down the centre of goal. I tap the shoot button – straight at the keeper.

I do the EXACT same move – but this time it flies over.

I then angle the shot slightly to the left of the keeper. From 18 yards. And it’s miles wide.

So in summary (and some new questions):
1) How can world class strikers miss the simplest of chances?

2) How come my passes go where I aim and with the right amount of power yet my shots do not?

3) How come even with RB for controlled shot - the ball balloons over?

4) How come even just tapping the shoot button, shots fly over?

5) How come just angling ever so slightly away from the centre of the goal sends a shot wide?

6) If Semi means the ball goes where you point it, what does assisted add to a shot? And what's the difference between Semi and Manual - as in both cases the ball goes where you point and as hard as you hit it?

7) When I take a direct free kick, where is the "target" of your aim? The camera moves when you move the direction button but I have no idea where the "aim" is.

8) When I take a direct free kick, the camera is behind my man. So if I want to curl left, I press left on the direction pad. BUT when the free kick is taken - the camera changes back to TELE and is often in front of the player. So will that affect my curl as left and right are now reversed?

Thx for your time and patience.
